CNC Setter and Operator
We are offering a fantastic opportunity for an experienced CNC Setter and Operator to join our team. Reporting directly to the Production Manager, the ideal candidate will bring expertise in the aerospace engineering sector, specifically working with high-tolerance components. In this role, you’ll be responsible for programming, setting, and operating a variety of first-operation CNC machines, including both sliding and fixed-head lathes, as well as milling machines, all while adhering to strict health and safety guidelines.
You will play a key role in coordinating programming and setting activities, ensuring that first-off parts meet quality standards, and driving continuous improvement in manufacturing efficiency. A focus on reducing waste and enhancing productivity will be essential, in line with our zero-defect philosophy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely set up and operate first-operation machinery, including CNC lathes (fixed-head, sliding-head), turning mills, and bar feeders (Doosan, Hardinge, Mori, Star).
- Provide support for second-operation machinery, such as thread rollers, grinders, part markers, drill banks, and deburrers (manual and rotary).
- Work confidently with a range of materials, including aluminium, stainless steel, and Inconel.
- Coordinate programming and setting tasks in collaboration with other setters.
- Perform first-off inspections and job run checks for both first and second-operation machine parts.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols, wearing the required PPE at all times.
- Accurately complete all clocking and production records, ensuring work movements are logged in the company’s EFACS system.
- Reduce scrap and rework, providing efficiency feedback to the Production Manager.
- Maintain machine efficiency to meet key performance indicators (KPIs), including on-time deliveries, arrears, and parts per hour (PPH).
- Produce high-quality products according to agreed standards and quality procedures.
- Complete daily maintenance and cycle time sheets to ensure optimal machine performance.
- Keep the work environment safe, clean, and well-organized at all times.
- Assist in the training and development of junior operators as needed.
Core Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in the aerospace engineering sector.
- Proven experience in setting and operating first and second-operation machines, with some programming skills.
- Familiarity with bar-feed machines.
- Proficiency with Fanuc and Seiki machine controls.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Excellent measurement skills using a variety of tooling.
- Solid understanding of routine machine maintenance and the ability to perform practical maintenance tasks.
