MTS Recruitment is working with a specialist engineering business to recruit an experienced Electrical Support Engineer to join their growing engineering team in Surrey.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically biased engineer looking to work on complex electro-mechanical systems within the rail and industrial sectors. You'll play a key role supporting engineering projects from concept through to maintenance, fault diagnosis and continuous improvement, while working alongside experienced engineering professionals on technically challenging projects.

The Role

As an Electrical Support Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing electrical engineering tasks, testing activities and technical issues
  • Creating, maintaining and developing electrical job packs and engineering documentation
  • Managing engineering changes, concessions and technical updates
  • Creating, reviewing and maintaining electrical Bills of Materials (BoMs)
  • Controlling electrical drawings, manuals and technical documentation
  • Designing, specifying and reverse engineering electrical components and systems
  • Investigating equipment failures, customer complaints, warranty issues and NCRs
  • Carrying out root cause analysis and fault diagnosis
  • Supporting wiring processes and ensuring engineering compliance
  • Producing technical reports following condition assessments and failure investigations
  • Assisting with supplier evaluations and technical purchasing support
  • Providing engineering support across legacy and multi-brand equipment
  • Mentoring colleagues and promoting engineering best practice

About You

We're looking for candidates with:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Avionics or related Engineering discipline
  • Minimum 2 years' electrical design engineering experience (4+ years preferred)
  • Strong electrical design, testing and fault-finding experience
  • Experience with reverse engineering and technical problem-solving
  • Excellent understanding of electrical systems and engineering fundamentals
  • Experience using CAD software and ERP systems (TeamCenter/NX and SAP advantageous)
  • Good Microsoft Office and IT skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Candidates from the rail industry are highly desirable; however, engineers from marine, oil & gas, manufacturing, industrial or other heavy engineering environments are encouraged to apply.

Desirable Experience

  • Rail systems including sensors, drives, transmissions and couplers
  • ISO 9001, RSSB, RISAS, RISQS and TfL/LUL standards
  • NPI, FMECA, validation and systems integration
  • Electrical fault diagnosis and root cause analysis
