About the Estimating Engineer role

We are seeking an experienced Estimating Engineer to support the preparation and submission of quotations and tenders within a precision engineering environment.

This role is focused on producing accurate manufacturing cost estimates, assessing production methods and timescales, and working closely with engineering, production, and procurement teams to deliver competitive and commercially sound bids.

You will also act as a key commercial interface between the business and its customers, ensuring high-quality, compliant submissions that support business growth and profitability.

 

Estimating Engineer Key Responsibilities

  • Estimate manufacturing and sales costs for CNC 3, 4, and 5-axis milling and turning projects
  • Interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models to assess manufacturability
  • Identify optimal machining methods and machine tool selection
  • Source pricing and lead times for materials, treatments, and subcontract services
  • Prepare and submit accurate and competitive quotations in line with customer requirements
  • Support Bid/No Bid decisions and prioritisation of workload
  • Liaise with internal engineering, production, and procurement teams
  • Maintain and update bid registers and support continuous improvement of estimating accuracy and win rates
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and customer requirements

 

Estimating Engineer Requirements

  • Proven experience in estimating within a CNC machining environment
  • Strong knowledge of CNC milling (3, 4, 5-axis) and turning processes
  • Background in aerospace or precision engineering is essential
  • Experience working with materials such as titanium, aluminium, and steel
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and CAD models
  • Experience sourcing materials, treatments, and supplier pricing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and CAD software (e.g. CATIA)
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented
