Location: Eastbourne and Lewes, East Sussex
Contract: Short-term project
Start Date: Must be available to start by 17th August
Hours: Monday to Friday, approximately 8–10 hours per shift
Rate: £neg, depending on experience and qualification

We are recruiting an experienced HGV Class 2 HIAB Installation Operative to support a short-term bus shelter installation project across Eastbourne and Lewes.

The successful candidate will collect shelters from a storage yard within the Eastbourne or Lewes area, transport them directly to installation sites and operate a truck-mounted crane/HIAB to safely load and unload the shelters.

The main delivery of the shelters from the Hayes depot to the local Eastbourne/Lewes storage yard will be completed by the company’s own HGV operative.

The Role

  • Travel independently to the designated Eastbourne or Lewes storage yard
  • Collect the company HGV at the beginning of each shift
  • Collect bus shelters from the local storage location
  • Transport shelters directly to installation sites across Eastbourne and Lewes
  • Operate a truck-mounted crane/HIAB to safely load and unload shelters
  • Support the delivery and installation of bus shelters and associated street furniture
  • Read, understand and safely implement lifting plans
  • Ensure lifting operations comply with LOLER regulations and safe working procedures
  • Secure all loads correctly before transportation
  • Set out barriers, signage and cones to maintain a safe working area
  • Carry out daily vehicle and lifting-equipment inspections
  • Report vehicle defects, equipment issues, incidents and unsafe working practices
  • Return the HGV to the Eastbourne/Lewes yard after each shift
  • Remain fully accountable for the safe and correct use of the HGV and HIAB

Requirements

  • Full HGV Class 2 licence
  • Valid lorry-mounted crane/HIAB qualification
  • Current NRSWA Operative qualification
  • Previous experience working on highways
  • Experience operating a HIAB or truck-mounted crane
  • Strong understanding of lifting plans and safe lifting operations
  • Experience transporting and lifting shelters, street furniture or similar loads
  • Full UK driving licence held for at least 12 months
  • Manual Handling qualification
  • Good knowledge of vehicle safety, load security and daily inspections
  • Own transport to travel to and from the Eastbourne or Lewes yard
  • Available to begin the assignment by 17th August

Previous experience using CAT scanners, hand tools and power tools would be advantageous. A valid CSCS card would also be beneficial.
