Junior/Trainee Manufacturing Engineer

Salary: £27,000–£30,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday, 7:30am–5:00pm; Friday, 7:30am–11:30am

We are recruiting for a Junior/Trainee Manufacturing Engineer to join an established Planning and Engineering team within an aerospace manufacturing environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has recently completed an engineering apprenticeship or has gained a good foundation in engineering and wants to develop a long-term career in Manufacturing Engineering. Full training and support will be provided as you learn how to plan and coordinate the manufacture of aircraft components and assemblies.

The Role

You will learn how to create manufacturing planning instructions from customer drawings, specifications and bills of materials. This will cover sheet metal components, machined parts, sub-assemblies and complete assemblies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing new and repeat customer orders
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • Creating engineering methods of manufacture
  • Producing bills of materials, routings and manufacturing instructions
  • Planning and setting out manufacturing operations
  • Creating jobs and entering set and run times within an MRP/ERP system
  • Preparing job travellers, drawings, process sheets and production job packs
  • Raising requisitions for materials and procurement requirements
  • Ensuring engineering documentation is recorded in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System
  • Working closely with production supervisors, operators and engineers
  • Helping to identify the most appropriate and cost-effective manufacturing methods
  • Updating planning documentation when production issues are identified
  • Supporting the resolution of technical and manufacturing problems
  • Assisting with NCR and root cause corrective action activities
  • Liaising with customers and internal teams regarding engineering queries

Skills and Experience

  • Completed engineering apprenticeship or a good base knowledge of engineering
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Able to understand or keen to learn engineering drawings and manufacturing processes
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Confident using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Results-focused with a willingness to learn
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Capable of managing and prioritising your workload

Experience within aviation or aerospace manufacturing would be beneficial but is not essential. Knowledge of CATIA V5, 3D models or MRP/ERP software would also be advantageous.
