Mechanical Engineer
Location: Croydon, South London
Salary: £52,000 - £55,000 per annum
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a specialist engineering organisation supporting the overhaul, maintenance, investigation, and continuous improvement of complex mechanical systems.
This is a varied, hands-on engineering role that would suit a proactive engineer who enjoys problem-solving, technical investigations, report writing and supporting projects from concept through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out technical investigations, fault finding and root cause analysis
- Produce technical reports and engineering documentation
- Create method statements, overhaul instructions and test procedures
- Conduct condition assessments and material analysis
- Support overhaul and refurbishment projects
- Manage warranty investigations and liaise with customers and suppliers
- Review Bills of Materials (BoMs) and engineering changes
- Raise and manage concessions, production permits and engineering change requests
- Design and develop tooling solutions where required
- Support internal departments including Projects, Production, Purchasing, Quality and Operations
- Attend technical meetings and provide customer-facing engineering support
- Assist in maintaining engineering and quality standards across the business
Requirements
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
- Minimum 6 years' professional engineering experience
- Strong background in mechanical engineering, testing and technical investigations
- Experience producing technical documentation including method statements and work instructions
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Understanding of overhaul, maintenance or production environments
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality systems
- Commercial awareness and understanding of engineering decision-making
- Strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders
- IT literate with the ability to produce high-quality technical reports
- Flexible, hands-on and proactive approach to engineering challenges
Desirable Experience
- Rail, Marine, Power Generation, Oil & Gas or Industrial Engineering sectors
- Mechanical power transmission equipment such as gearboxes, couplings, drive systems or rotating equipment
- Knowledge of BS 8888 technical documentation standards
