Mechanical Engineer

We are recruiting an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join an established engineering business in Croydon. This varied role combines practical engineering, fault investigation and technical support, helping deliver overhaul projects and improvements to mechanical products and processes.

The Role
You will provide hands-on engineering support across workshop operations and engineering projects, working closely with production, quality, purchasing, sales and project teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out condition assessments, fault diagnosis and technical investigations.
- Supporting component overhaul projects, including preparing job packs and overhaul instructions.
- Checking and signing off bills of materials.
- Producing method statements, test procedures and technical reports.
- Managing warranty investigations, identifying causes of failure and recommending corrective actions.
- Preparing and managing engineering changes, concessions and production permit requests.
- Reviewing engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Supporting first article inspections, material analysis and tooling design.
- Liaising with customers and suppliers to resolve technical issues.
- Supporting quality standards and identifying opportunities to improve products and processes.
Requirements
- HNC/HND or equivalent in a mechanically biased engineering discipline.
- At least six years of professional engineering experience.
- Strong practical experience in mechanical engineering, testing, problem solving and technical investigations.
- Experience producing method statements, overhaul instructions and other technical documentation.
- Understanding of overhaul production processes.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and BS 8888 technical documentation standards.
- Strong communication, numerical and analytical skills.
- A proactive, adaptable approach and the ability to respond to changing priorities.
- Commercial awareness and confidence working with internal teams, customers and suppliers.
- Ability to commute to Croydon for onsite work five days per week.
Experience with mechanical driveline systems, such as gearboxes, cardan shafts, couplings, rail couplers or marine drives, would be advantageous. Experience within rail, marine, power, oil and gas or industrial engineering environments would also be beneficial.
