NEC4 Project Quantity Surveyor – Construction / Infrastructure

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced NEC4 Project Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established engineering and construction business delivering a major long-term public transport infrastructure programme across the North East.

The successful candidate will provide hands-on commercial and NEC4 contract support across a multi-site programme, working closely with the Project Manager and Contracts Director. The role combines cost control, valuations, contract administration, procurement and operational support, with responsibility for protecting the commercial position of the project.

This position would suit a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC4 knowledge who is comfortable working autonomously within a busy construction environment. Experience within highways, street works, infrastructure, architectural metalwork, street furniture or public transport projects would be highly advantageous.

The Role

As NEC4 Project Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining accurate cost control across individual sites and work packages, including commitments, accruals, actual costs, forecasts, value and margin
  • Preparing monthly cost/value reconciliations, forecasts and commercial reports
  • Measuring completed works and preparing interim applications and valuations
  • Supporting invoicing, payment follow-up and final accounts
  • Managing NEC4 contractual processes including Early Warnings, Compensation Events, quotations, notifications, acceptances and contractual correspondence
  • Identifying changes, delays and disruption and maintaining appropriate records to protect contractual entitlement
  • Supporting programme administration, including progress, sequencing, Time Risk Allowances and change
  • Preparing subcontractor enquiry packages, comparisons, scopes and orders
  • Assessing subcontractor applications, variations and final accounts
  • Supporting payment and pay less notices
  • Working closely with the project team on procurement, labour, plant, materials, permits, traffic management and site readiness
  • Maintaining accurate and auditable commercial documentation
  • Attending client, progress and commercial meetings
  • Building effective working relationships with clients and the supply chain
  • Providing commercial and operational support to the wider project team

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, civil engineering or infrastructure
  • Strong practical NEC4 knowledge and experience
  • Ideally experienced with NEC4 ECC Option A
  • Confident managing Compensation Events, Early Warning Notices, contractual notices, time bars and payment processes
  • HNC, HND, BSc, MSc or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
  • Strong Excel, cost control and commercial reporting skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and disciplined record keeping
  • Commercially astute with strong communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence – essential
  • Good understanding of construction methods and materials
  • CSCS Card, ideally Black or White
  • NEC4 accreditation would be advantageous
  • SMSTS or IOSH would be advantageous
  • NRSWA Supervisor qualification would be advantageous

Experience within highways, traffic management, excavation works, street works, utilities, road opening permits, street furniture, signage or architectural metalwork would be particularly beneficial.

The successful candidate will be a confident self-starter with a proactive approach to problem-solving, strong commercial awareness and the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
