The Role
- We are seeking a Project Engineer to join a specialist engineering team working on the design and development of superconducting magnet systems and cryogenic refrigeration technology.
- This role combines engineering design, applied physics, and project management, giving you the opportunity to work on highly technical systems used by some of the world’s leading research organisations.
- You will be responsible for taking projects from concept and design through to manufacturing, testing, and installation, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Design superconducting magnet and cryogenic refrigeration systems
- Manage technical projects, timelines, and budgets
- Work closely with customers to understand technical requirements
- Translate customer requirements into manufacturing specifications
- Use CAD, finite element modelling, and engineering analysis tools
- Support system testing and validation
- Liaise with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth production
- Participate in customer visits and system installation when required
Essential Requirements for the Project Engineer
- Degree in Physics or closely related discipline
- PHD would be to your advantage
- Masters degree is essential
- Strong understanding of both theoretical and practical physics
- Ability to apply scientific principles to engineering design
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage technical projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
Desirable Experience for the Project Engineer
- Knowledge or experience with:
- Superconductors
- Cryogenic systems
- Vacuum technology
- Experience using CAD and engineering simulation tools
Career Development
- Starting level and salary are dependent on experience
- PhD candidates or those with relevant research experience are strongly encouraged to apply
- A Trainee Project Engineer pathway (approx. 1 year) may be available for candidates with strong potential and willingness to learn
