Project Manager – Aerospace Manufacturing

Location: Bishop’s Stortford
Salary: £55,000–£57,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am–5:00 pm

We are recruiting an experienced Project Manager to oversee customer programmes and manufacturing projects within a high-precision aerospace manufacturing environment.

This is a senior, hands-on position involving end-to-end project management, production planning and leadership of the Production Control team. You will ensure customer orders are delivered on time, within budget and in accordance with strict aerospace quality and regulatory requirements.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will act as the main point of contact between customers, suppliers and internal departments. You will coordinate manufacturing activities across CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, heat treatment, surface treatments, assembly, inspection and subcontract processing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing multiple aerospace manufacturing projects from receipt of order through to final delivery
  • Developing detailed project plans covering manufacturing and supply-chain activities
  • Establishing milestones and monitoring progress against agreed schedules
  • Identifying project risks and implementing effective mitigation and recovery plans
  • Coordinating Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing and Logistics departments
  • Ensuring materials, resources and subcontract services are available when required
  • Monitoring operational performance, costs, budgets and project KPIs
  • Leading project, production and customer review meetings
  • Managing and developing the Production Control team
  • Reviewing production schedules, manufacturing capacity and work-order priorities
  • Monitoring daily production progress and resolving delays or bottlenecks
  • Improving schedule adherence, lead times and On-Time Delivery performance
  • Coordinating suppliers providing materials, machining, heat treatment, plating, painting, NDT and other special processes
  • Expediting critical supplier and subcontract deliveries
  • Using ERP and MRP systems to monitor demand, materials, capacity, job progression and delivery commitments
  • Leading New Product Introduction and build-to-print projects
  • Ensuring drawings, specifications, routings and quality requirements are understood and controlled
  • Maintaining compliance with AS9100, customer requirements and company procedures
  • Supporting customer, internal and regulatory audits
  • Driving continuous improvements in production planning, workflow and delivery performance

Requirements

  • At least five years’ experience as a Project Manager or Programme Manager within manufacturing
  • Experience within aerospace, defence or another highly regulated industry is strongly preferred
  • At least three years’ supervisory or line-management experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge of project management methodologies and tools
  • Experience using ERP systems and manufacturing planning or scheduling software
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills
  • Commercial awareness, including budgets, delivery performance, costs and schedule changes
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Results-focused, organised and capable of working independently
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and production environments

Desirable

  • Knowledge of AS9100 and aerospace regulatory requirements
  • PRINCE2, APM or an equivalent project management qualification
  • PMP certification
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement qualifications
  • Supply-chain-related qualifications
