Quality Inspector – Aerospace
We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join our aerospace manufacturing operation. Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that all products meet internal quality standards and customer requirements prior to release into Finished Goods.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented quality professional with strong inspection, testing, and calibration experience within an aerospace or regulated engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspection of manufactured components in line with manufacturing routings, quality plans, and QMS procedures
- Perform qualification, testing, FAIR/LAIR, and final product release activities
- Ensure full product traceability, batch control, and compliance with routing requirements
- Operate and program CMM / laser measurement equipment and confidently use a wide range of inspection tools
- Calibrate handheld measurement equipment in accordance with aerospace quality standards and maintain accurate calibration records
- Manage non-conformance activities for internal, customer, and subcontractor issues, including root cause analysis and rework approval
- Conduct gauge R&R studies as required
- Support audits and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and AS9100 requirements
- Monitor scrap, rework, and subcontractor performance and report findings as directed
- Assist with technical reviews and collaborate closely with manufacturing teams
- Promote a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and 5S throughout the business
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Previous experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace
- Strong inspection and measurement skills using a broad range of equipment, including:
- Micrometres, callipers, ring and plug gauges
- CMMs, shadowgraphs, height gauges
- Torque, tensile, hardness, and proof load testing equipment
- Surface comparators
- Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Working knowledge of quality and aerospace standards including ISO 9001, AS9100, EASA Part 21 and Part 145
- Experience with First Article Inspection (FAIR) and audit processes
- Strong problem-solving capability, ideally using 8D methodology
- High level of attention to detail and strong numeracy skills
- Confident communicator with the ability to work effectively across teams
- Self-motivated, organised, and able to manage priorities with minimal supervision
