Street Works Permit Coordinator & Project Administrator

Location: Gateshead, Team Valley
Salary: £28,000 – £35,000 per annum, depending on experience

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Street Works Permit Coordinator / Project Administrator to join a busy infrastructure project based in Gateshead.

This is an office-based position supporting a Regional Project Manager, site operatives and the wider project team across a multi-site street furniture and transport infrastructure programme.

The successful candidate must have practical experience of NRSWA street works permitting and experience using Street Manager or a comparable local authority permit system. This role would suit an organised and dependable administrator with previous experience within highways, utilities, construction, transport infrastructure or a local authority environment.

The Role

As Street Works Permit Coordinator & Project Administrator, you will be responsible for coordinating NRSWA permits and associated street works administration while also providing general project and office support.

Duties will include:

  • Coordinating NRSWA and local authority permit applications, variations, extensions, cancellations and closures
  • Using Street Manager and relevant local authority permit systems
  • Maintaining accurate live registers of permits, approvals, conditions, deadlines and charges
  • Checking locations, dates, works durations, excavation details, reinstatement information and traffic management information before permit submission
  • Issuing and monitoring start, stop, works clear and works closed notifications
  • Reviewing permit conditions and communicating requirements to project managers, supervisors, operatives and subcontractors
  • Liaising with highway authorities, permit teams, utility companies, traffic management providers and subcontractors
  • Monitoring road-space availability, embargoes, traffic-sensitive streets and potential programme clashes
  • Supporting permit inspections, defect queries, fixed penalty notices and overrun challenges
  • Preparing project and site packs including permits, drawings, RAMS, traffic management information and utility records
  • Maintaining accurate project files, trackers, registers and document control records
  • Checking timesheets, overtime, expenses, attendance and absence records
  • Supporting purchase orders, supplier quotations, delivery notes and invoice queries
  • Updating project trackers, schedules and routine reports
  • Coordinating diaries, meetings, minutes and action lists
  • Supporting basic fleet and vehicle administration
  • Providing general office and depot administration
  • Supporting onboarding and training records for project staff and operatives

Requirements

  • Practical experience of NRSWA street works permitting is essential
  • Experience using Street Manager or a comparable local authority permit system is essential
  • Good understanding of the New Roads and Street Works Act
  • Knowledge of permit schemes, statutory timescales, notices and permit conditions
  • Previous administration experience within highways, utilities, construction, transport infrastructure or a local authority environment would be highly advantageous
  • Competent user of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Confident written and verbal communication skills
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent
  • NRSWA, Street Works Permit Scheme or relevant highways administration training would be advantageous
  • Level 3 qualification in Business Administration, Construction, Civil Engineering or Highways would be advantageous
  • Full UK Driving Licence desirable
